Regional tournaments are quickly approaching and wrestlers are in preparation to make their respective runs at state. These rankings are a good indication as to who to expect to see at the state tournaments Feb. 22 and 23.Class 6A – Click here for complete rankings
6A is the lone class with any changes at the top of any weight class and they came at 120 and 220. In 120, Kevin Perez of Junction City moved into the top spot and bumped Manhattan’s Kian Clemens to No. 2. In 220, Shawnee Mission West’s Ramiro Gatica became the No. 1 wrestler in the weight class. Wichita North’s Caleb Franklin is now No. 2.
Garden City is still the top team in 6A as Junction City holds steady at No. 2. Derby sits comfortably at No. 3. Manhattan and Gardner-Edgerton round out the top five for the second straight week.

With no changes in 5A, these top grapplers are in the middle of preparation for regional tournaments. Andover Central’s Zac Gentzler has held the top spot for the entirety of the winter season. The same goes for Leavenworth’s Nathan Butler in 285.
Ark City, with no surprise, is still the top team in 5A. St. Thomas Aquinas and St. James Academy still sit at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Newton and Valley Center round out the top five for the second straight week.

Augusta’s Jake Goldenstein has held the No. 1 ranking for all of the winter season in 106. He finished as a runner-up at last year’s state tournament. El Dorado’s Austin Hughey, another AVCTL wrestler, also finished in second place last season, but has held the top spot in 145 for the majority of the season.
Bonner Springs and Colby, respectively, are the top two teams in the classification. Andale remains as the third-ranked team as Fort Scott and El Dorado get comfortable in fourth and fifth.

Halstead’s Alex Thibault has been the top guy in 152 for the entire winter season. Nobody has been able to touch him in 2012-13, so it will be fun to see how he does at regionals and then, hopefully, state. Fredonia’s Brogan Humphrey has been on fire since his Newton Tournament of Champions win.
Plainville has gotten pretty comfortable in the No. 1 spot this winter season, but Hoisington nips at the Cardinals’ wings at No. 2. Norton and Scott City are Nos. 3 and 4. Hoxie is the No. 5 team in 3-1A.
