Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure (September 29, 2012) |
Thousands of breast cancer survivors along with family members, friends and community members hit the pavement on Saturday, September 29, to participate in the 23rd Annual Susan G. Komen Wichita Race for the Cure.
The fundraiser kicked-off at 7:45 AM with a 5K competitive run, located at the northwest corner of the Towne East Square parking lot. In addition to the race’s 5K run/walk, the fundraiser included a Kids for the Cure 50 yard dash and 1 mile fun walk.
As the world’s largest fundraising event for breast cancer, the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure helps raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, celebrate survivors and honor those who lost their battle with the disease.
According to the Susan G. Komen Website, every 69 seconds a life is lost to breast cancer.
With the Komen Wichita Race for the Cure, 75 percent of the race’s net income stays right here in Kansas. The funds raised help fund breast cancer screenings, breast health education and treatment projects.
Since its beginnings in 1990, the Mid-Kansas Affililiate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been able to raise nearly 4 million dollars to invest in breast cancer research, outreach, education, and screening services.
