Sculpture WalkAbout Deadline Extended

Artists now have until Monday, April 15, to submit entries for the Sculpture WalkAbout project that is jointly sponsored by The Arts Council, City of Wichita and Sedgwick County. Up to 12 sculptures will be chosen by a juror for display throughout Old Town and around INTRUST Bank Arena from May 2013 through April 2014. The deadline was extended to give more artists an opportunity to participate.

Artists may submit photographs of up to three sculptures completed in the past three years for consideration. The artwork must be free-standing and made from suitable materials for long-term outdoor display. Pictures of these pieces must accompany the entry form and be saved on a compact disc in JPEG format. A complete list of requirements and entry forms are available online at wichitaarts.com or at CityArts, 334 N. Mead, in Wichita’s Old Town Square. Details can also be obtained by calling (316) 303-8600.

Artists will receive a $500 honorarium for each work selected for the Sculpture WalkAbout project. In addition, a $1,000 Arts Council Best of Show Award will be given to an artist selected by Arts Council board members. The official unveiling of the winners is scheduled for Friday, May 24.

Entering its fifth year, the Sculpture WalkAbout project is meant to advance the cultural awareness of arts in our community as well as enhance the aesthetics of Old Town. While the bases are permanent, the sculptures atop of them change each year.
