The legendary singer is best known for rising to fame in the 1980’s alongside her famous mother in the country duo, The Judds. Why you should go: Country singer and multi-platinum artist, Dierks Bentley, is bringing his "Country and Cold Cans" tour to Hartman Arena next Friday night. This country super-star is credited with selling over five million total album sales and earning ten Grammy nominations. Since his start in the country business, Dierks has had eight No. 1 singles including hit songs “Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go),” “5-1-5-0,” and “What Was I Thinkin’.”

Why you should go: Old Cowtown Museum is having a benefit concert this Saturday that will have you ‘stomping and hollering’ all night long. The concert will feature two bands from Kansas that have both claimed national recognition: Dumptruck Butterlips and Carrie Nation and The Speakeasy.
Need a little background on the bands? The Dumptruck Butterlips is a four person band from Lawrence, Kansas. The quartet who has an “easy-going” stage presence has a diverse blend of genres that range from folk, country, bluegrass and soul. On the opposite-hand, Carrie Nation and The Speakeasy is a high-energy band that will have you out on the dance floor in seconds. The band comes straight from Wichita and performs an eclectic blend of bluegrass, metal, folk, punk and jam.
All of the proceeds raised from the ‘Stomp and Holler’ concert will go towards benefitting Cowtown’s “Empire House Live!” The “Empire House Live!” is a new concert/theater series that has had an impressive line-up of performances for 2012. Why you should go: Tower of Power will be bringing a night of soul into the Orpheum Theatre this Saturday night. The R&B-based horn section and band has received world-wide recognition over its 40 year journey and has recorded with some of the largest names in the music industry, including Aerosmith, Elton John, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, Huey Lewis and the News, Santana and Heart.

Why you should go: August 5, 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s untimely death. To honor the iconic actress, the Orpheum Theatre introduced “A Summer with Marilyn,” which was a special film series in the summer of 2012. Over the course of the summer, six Marilyn Monroe films were shown at 2pm matinees on Sunday for $5. This Sunday, the film “The Misfits” will be the last movie to play for the special summer series.
“The Misfits” was released in 1961 and was about an attractive, young divorcé (Monroe) who falls in love with an older cowboy (Gable) who struggles to retain his independent lifestyle in the early-sixties in Nevada. The film was the last fully-completed film appearance for the two major screen legends: Marilyn Monroe (35 years old) and Clark Gable (59 years old), and third-to-last film for actor Montgomery Clift (45 years old).
