Where: Downtown Wichita, 600 Block E. Douglas, Wichita
Cost: $5 Tasting Kit
Info: http://www.wagonmasterschili.com
Why you should go: Whoever has a hunger for mouth-watering, perfectly seasoned, delicious chili needs to stop by the public-tasting event in downtown Wichita. Judges have been selected from across the state so that no biased opinions will be formed during the judging process.
You can participate in this event too! Every year, dozens of teams come out to win the coveted cash winnings and other prizes. If you think you have what it takes to compete with the best chili cooks around, the entry fee is $50… which isn’t bad considering the grand champ will walk away with $1,000. Chili will be judged on 5 different categories: aroma, appearance, blend, texture, and overall taste.
If you just want to go there to eat the chili instead (which sounds good to me), there is a $5 fee for the public sampling option where the public can go around and sample each of the booths. After sampling each one, choose your favorite team for the People’s Choice award.
