Why you should go: AMSOIL Arenacross is returning to INTRUST Bank Arena for two full nights of action-packed entertainment that will keep fans cheering all night long. The 2013 competitive format features a fresh, creative new format of on-track competition that has never been seen before.

After a one year hiatus, the championship is making its much anticipated comeback to Wichita, with fans eagerly awaiting the return of the high-octane, close competition of this truly unique spectacle. The new season holds many changes in store for fans, including an all-new 12-lap Main Events on top of a man-made dirt battleground, which will make for logic-defying obstacles and air-inducing jumps. Fans will also have an opportunity to meet the riders and feel the dirt at the Monster Energy Track Party.

Tickets for Saturday, February 23 are reserved and are $12, $18 and $32. Tickets for Sunday, February 24 are general admission and are $18. A $6 youth ticket is available for both days for children ages 2-12. Why you should go: Get ready for one of Kansas’ largest indoor motorcycle & car show of the year. The 4th Annual “Park City Chill” is going to be bigger and better than ever, with more girls, motorcycles, cars, music and entertainment. The “Chill” will feature two separate shows: The Motorcycle Show and The Car Show.

The Motorcycle Show will be located in Pavilion I and will feature over 47 motorcycle classes (Customs, Street, Dresser, Stocks, and Brag Bikes). The Car Show will be located in the Arena Building/Pavilion II and will feature over 58 car classes (Street Machines, Low Riders, Race Cars, Customs, Trucks, and 4x4’s).

The “Chill” will also include two full days of live music, items for purchase, swimsuit competition, and various other types of entertainment throughout the weekend.

 



 

3)    ICT Roller Girls

Why you should go: ICT Roller Girls will once again be “jamming” their way around the rink this weekend at The Cotillion. This is the season opener for the ICT Rollers Girls, playing against No Coast Derby Girls. The opener is a double header, also featuring a second match between Heartland Havoc vs. Road Warriors. A portion of the proceeds raised will go to Lifeline Animal Placement and Protection (lifelineanimalplacement.org).

Children 11 and under are FREE with an adult. An after party will follow the event and will be held at The Monarch, located at 579 W. Douglas Ave. in Wichita. The after party requires you to be 18+ to enter, 21+ to drink.

 



 

4)    Exploration Place Boeing Dome Theater Shows

Why you should go:

Pink Floyd: Come take a psychedelic trip through vibrant images and graphics all set to one of the greatest rock artists of the ‘70s, Pink Floyd. The Exploration Place is bringing the rock music to life through the Boeing Dome Theater and Planetarium’s Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Cosmic Light Show. You’ll be immersed in amazing, vivid graphics on the theatre’s 360-degree domed shaped screen and 5.1 surround sound. Parental guidance is strongly suggested and the show is recommended for ages 17 years and older.

Wildest Weather: Looking for a great family event that’s good for all ages? Come out to see the show, “Wildest Weather in the Solar System,” will take you on an exhilarating ride through some of our solar system’s most intense storms. The show will take you on a journey through liquid methane rain showers, magnetic storms on the sun, whirling anticyclones on Jupiter and the thick atmosphere of Venus.

Showtimes: 2:00 PM on Sat, Feb. 23; 2:00 PM on Sun, Feb. 24.

Experience the Aurora: Another must see is the spectacular film “Experience the Aurora.” Immerse yourself in the spectacular beauty of the Aurora Borealis, or northern lights, and watch them shimmer and glisten on the theatre’s 360-degree domed shaped screen. Over a period of seven months in the Arctic Circle, the film follows a photography crew as they capture time-lapse images of the Aurora Borealis. The results? You’ll have to see for yourself!

Along with the stunning, vivid images of the colorful waterfall of lights, the film also shares the science behind the natural phenomena and tells the story of the photographer’s journey to locate and photograph what’s been called the “most amazing show nature can offer.”

5)    Charles Baughman and Dan Gegen

Why you should go: The Newman University Steckline Gallery will present an exhibit of painting and 3D work, entitled “From the Garden,” by artists Charles Baughman and Dan Gegen. The art exhibit, which begins with a Final Friday reception from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, February 22, will be on display through March 22. Both the reception and admission to the gallery are free and open to the public.

An "Art for Lunch" presentation will take place from noon to 1 PM on Tuesday, February 26. A light sandwich luncheon will be served on a first-come, first-served basis (guests may also bring their lunch). The event is also free and open to the public, reservations are not required.
