More than likely you probably have a pair of shoes lying in your closet that you’ll never wear again. Whether they're too small, too tall, or too last season, why not rid yourself of shoes that are just collecting dust and give them to someone who will actually wear them.
Newman University is inviting Wichita residents to recycle their ‘gently-used’ shoes to benefit the Soles4Souls shoe drive. Soles4Souls has been collecting and distributing shoes to people living in poverty or affected by natural disasters since 2005. Since then, the shoe charity has provided more than 16 million pairs of shoes to impoverished individuals.
Newman's shoe drive will kick off during the Men’s and Women’s first home basketball games on November 11, 2011 (starting @ 5:30 p.m.). Those who bring a pair of gently worn shoes will receive free admission into either game. The shoe drive will be accepting shoes until December 19th, 2011 and can be dropped off outside of Newman’s Fugate Gymnasium and Athletics’ Office.
