The Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson has an SR-71 spy plane on display right now. What could be better than viewing the world's fasted spy plane? How about hearing about it straight from the source? On August 24-26, the Cosmosphere is hosting Operation Blackbird SR-71 Spytacular, which will be co-hosted by SR-71 pilot Buz Carpenter and Kansas Aviator Karen Anderson.
The event kicks off on Friday, August 24 with a VIP reception under the Blackbird. Over 20 SR-71 crew members will be in attendance for a meet and greet. Hear their stories of the legendary plane. (The VIP reception requires advance tickets. (Visit http://www.cosmo.org/newsroom/ne_nw_article.cfm?id=129 for more information.)
The fun continues on Saturday, August 25 with a long list of events:
- Blackbird Crew Reflections
- Meet & Greet with the Crew
- SR-71 Documentary screenings
- Hall of Space Museum tours
- IMAX films, including "Air Racers"
- Lunch with the crew
- Air Capital IPMS Model Show and contest
- Dine under the Blackbird (advance tickets recommended)
If you miss any of the fun on Saturday, you can catch a repeat of events on Sunday. Again, you'll be able to check out Blackbird Crew Reflections, IMAX films, meet and greet the crew and watch the SR-71 documentary.
