Kimbra Moore (September 5, 2012) |
A group of Wichita veterans is teaming with a local fast food chain to raise money for the mother of a little girl killed by a stray bullet.
VFW Post 3115 and Freddy's Frozen Custard are hosting a fundraiser this Saturday to help cover funeral costs and other expenses after the death of 8 year-old Kimbra Moore last month.
The Enterprise Elementary third grader was killed September 4th in her sleep after a stray bullet flew through the wall of her mobile home and struck her in the head.
Kimbra had previously attended While Elementary and her former principal, Marcia Shepler is helping organize the fundraiser.
Shepler said Kimbra's mother owes about $4500 just in unpaid funeral expenses. Cheris Moore also lost her job as a result of dealing with the responsibilities and grief following Kimbra's death, Shepler said.
The fundraiser is Saturday October 6th at Freddy's at 13th & Greenwich. Members of the VFW will be their with a collection bucket for cash donations from 2:30-5:30 p.m.
