New 'Atomic Era' exhibit on display at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum

‘Furnishing the Atomic Era’ is a brand new exhibit at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum. The special exhibit opens Friday, July 27 and will run through the end of the year. The exhibit is FREE to the public tonight only between 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The exhibit showcases how the postwar economy affected the lives of the average Wichita citizen. This period of time brought more leisure time, higher middle class incomes, opportunities to travel, crumbling of social boundaries, and greater advances in technology.

Home furnishings during this period of time were no exception to change. The drastic change in furniture during the ‘Atomic Era’ can be seen in various artifacts currently displayed at the Historical Museum.
