October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence touches the lives of Americans of all ages, leaving a devastating impact on women, men, and children of every background and circumstance. In 2011, TEN WICHITANS lost their lives to domestic violence. Those ten homicides represented 37% of the total homicides for the city last year and it was the highest number of domestic violence related deaths since 2004.
In October we recommit ourselves to ending violence within our homes and our community. Partners of our local Coalition to end Domestic and Sexual Violence include representatives from Criminal Justice, Shelters, Education, Prevention, Batterer Intervention Programs, and other social service organizations
